Montpellier might have been the Pool 4 whipping boys in this season's European Champions Cup, but Glasgow Warriors prop Jerry Yanuyanutawa expects them to bounce back off the ropes under new coach Jake White when they pitch up at Scotstoun on Sunday.

The French side have lost all four of their Champions Cup matches so far, but those defeats were sustained while former France captain Fabien Galthie was in charge. Galthie was replaced by White at the end of last month, and the South African put down his marker by guiding them to a 16-12 victory over European champions Toulon in his very first game.

White made his name when he steered South Africa to a World Cup triumph in 2007. However, Yanuyanutawa. knowledge of the coach is based on their season together with the ACT Brumbies in Australia and he is convinced that White is a formidable and inspirational character.

"I was there for a year when Jake was there," the Fijian powerhouse recalled. "I would say that Jake is a very calculating coach, very smart, always a forward planner. Coming here, he won't have the French mentality. He will be wanting to come here to get a victory.

"Jake took over and brought through a young group. Everyone thought that we would finish bottom of the super Rugby table, but we ended up finishing in the middle. The year after, we played in the final, and that's all due to Jake White bringing players through.

"When I was under Jake, I found that he made the group believe in themselves. That year, everyone wrote us off, but he came in as a good planer and a good manager and he knew how to get the job done.

With two rounds of group games remaining, unbeaten Toulouse are sitting pretty at the top of Pool 4 with 16 points, with Glasgow and Bath on 10. Montpellier, with just two losing bonus points to their name, are already out of the qualification race, but Yanuyanutawa believes their new coach will not stand for the kind of lackadaisical performance that French teams usually deliver in hopeless situations.

"Jake is a good in finding motivations for players," said the 29-year-old. "I wouldn't be surprised if he finds something to get the French boys up. I know everyone will probably be talking them down, and that they'll throw this away, but knowing Jake White he's not that kind of coach."

Given Toulouse's situation, Glasgow are likely to need at least one bonus point from their two remaining games - they travel to Bath for their final match on Sunday week - to clinch a place in the quarter-finals as one of the three best runners-up. Bath will be knocked out of contention if they lose to Toulouse this weekend, but the Warriors would still have to post a better points total than second-placed sides in other groups.

Yet Yanuyanutawa urged caution about getting involved in a points chase, stressing that the most important thing was to get a win rather than start thinking about scoring four tries.

"I think that could be a pitfall," he said. "We don't want to underestimate Montpellier. If you assume things then you will definitely fail. For us, it is about getting the win and then pushing on to the next week. If we get the win then everything else will be a plus."

Meanwhile Warriors coach Gregor Townsend has confirmed that centre Mark Bennett is in the runing to return to the Glasgow lineup for the first time since he suffered a hamstring injury playing for Scotland against the All Blacks in November.

Bennett played 30 minutes for the Glasgow A team against Scotland under-20 in a training match at Murrayfield on Monday, and the indications afterwards were that he had come through with no recurrence of the problem that had kept him out for two months.

Townsend said: "It was great we were able to play against the under-20s. Mark had that game as his most optimistic target and it is great that he cleared all the hurdles to get to it, and then even better that he came through looking good.

"We have a lot of competition in the backline but Mark was in excellent form going into the November Tests and in the last Montpellier game he was one of our best players on the field that day and he had a couple of excellent breaks.

"So he adds to the depth and we are playing huge games in the Champions Cup and this year we are still in the tournament and to know that he is close to playing gives us a boost."
