The way has been cleared for the Glasgow Warriors captain Al Kellock to return to Guinness PRO12 action sooner rather than later with the news that the 56-times-capped lock has been released to play for Glasgow Hawks in their BT Premiership match with Gala at Netherdale tomorrow.

Kellock last played for the Warriors in their PRO12 cup final loss to Leinster in Dublin in May. He was them omitted from Scotland's summer tour squads to allow him to undergo reconstructive surgery on a shoulder problem. It had been thought his recovery programme would keep him out of rugby until the end of this month, so his early return is a welcome boost for the Warriors as well as the Hawks.

If Kellock's comeback is successful, he could even make a return for Warriors as early as their PRO12 clash with Newport Gwent Dragons tomorrow week.

Hawks' coach Jamie Dempsey said: "Al brings an enormous amount of experience to the pack. He played against us last season at Ayr and his presence in their front five had a great impact. His professionalism is apparent in everything he does.

"We are trying to build ties with the Warriors which will allow us to help build the future of Scottish rugby in Glasgow," said Dempsey. "Having players such as Al and Tyrone at the club gives others an idea of what it takes to become a pro."

Flanker Tyrone Holmes has also been released to play for the Hawks.

Meanwhile, the Warriors lock Tom Ryder is set to play his first game since last February after recovering from knee surgery.
