Mark Bennett, the Glasgow and Scotland centre, will enter a race against time to be fit for the Six Nations after being ruled out for 12 weeks.

Glasgow Warriors today confirmed that Bennett, 21, faces three months of rehabilitation after injuring his hamstring against New Zealand on Saturday.

The centre was assessed at Ross Hall Hospital in Glasgow, according to the Warriors press release, where it was decided that he would not need surgery and would instead enter a period of rehab.

Scotland's 2015 Six Nations campaign begins against France in Paris on February 7 - which will be 12 weeks to the day since their narrow defeat to the All Blacks - and Bennett's target will be to return in time to feature at Stade de France.

More immediately, instead of playing against Tonga in Kilmarnock next Saturday, Bennett will now spend the day signing autographs at Ardrossan Accies before taking in the Test from the stands at Rugby Park.

Bennett said: "I'm gutted to have picked up this injury and that I won't be involved on Saturday. However, I'm looking forward to visiting Ardrossan Accies and meeting the kids prior to the game at Rugby Park."

Glasgow, fresh from absorbing the blow of losing their in-form centre for the rest of the European Champions Cup group phase, confirmed the signing of utility back Fraser Lyle from Stirling County on a deal until the end of the season.
