Morrison's Academy and Earlston High School are hoping that today's Brewin Dolphin Scottish Schools under-18 Plate quarter-final will go ahead after what has been a lengthy wait for this tie to be played.

Morrison's have had little rugby this term and could be a tad ring rusty going into a match against the Borders school many of whose players are in the Melrose Wasps team that won the National Youth Bowl final at Murrayfield nine days ago.The prize for the winner will be a semi final tie against Boroughmuir High School who defeated last season's beaten finalists, Gordonstoun, 34-5.

Meanwhile the schools sevens season is now underway, beginning tomorrow at Auldhouse where Hutchesons' Grammar School will be staging their annual tournament. Hutchesons', however, have not concluded their XVs season and are due to play Glasgow High School this weekend.

Elsewhere Carrick Academy gave further evidence of their desire to build on what is a remarkable achievement in establishing rugby as a major sport in the small south Ayrshire school. On Saturday Carrick took on At Aloysius College and trailed only 7-0 at half-time before conceding an avalanche of points in the second half.

St Aloysius will be at Goldenacre on Saturday for their match with Heriot's, who lost narrowly to Edinburgh Academy by 14-17. There was a win, too, for Dollar Academy, who defeated Dundee High School 31-3.
