Glasgow Warriors are likely to play in front of a record crowd for a third successive time on Scottish soil when they host defending European champions Leinster in a vital Heineken Cup Pool 3 match on Sunday.

The club set a new home record for all competitions on New Year's Day when 8852 turned up to watch them win the 1872 Cup by beating derby rivals Edinburgh at Firhill. That was just six days after a new record league attendance was set at Murrayfield when 13,246 saw the two Scottish sides draw the first match of that double header.

Now officials are reporting that three days ahead of the match more than 5400 tickets had been sold for Sunday's meeting with the Irish province. Glasgow's biggest home attendance for a European tie was 5764 when they met Montferrand in a drawn match at Hughenden 11 years ago.

"It's great to hear that once again the rugby public in Glasgow and the west of Scotland are really getting behind us for what has the makings of a terrific occasion," said Sean Lineen, the club's head coach. "We know we've got to win the match to keep in the hunt for further European rugby. Having another big Firhill crowd behind us will really help the players in what is sure to be a massively tough encounter.

"Leinster have set extremely high standards for the rest of the continent in the last couple of years and its going to take a performance from right out of the top drawer for us to achieve the right result."

All tickets for the Jackie Husband stand have been sold with only seats for the North and main stands still available.
