Richard Dalgleish ran in a hat-trick of tries as Ayr defeated Stirling County 34-29 at Bridgehaugh in a cracking BT Premiership contest yesterday.
The win puts the Millbrae men second in the table behind Gala.
As well as Dalgleish's trio of tries Kerr Gossman, Sylvain Diez and Grant Anderson also went over for the visitors, who have now won three out of four in 2014/15.
A last-gasp drop goal from Craig Dods secured a 23-21 win for Gala against Hawick at Mansfield Park.
Gala took the lead in the third minute through a converted try by Euan Dods before a Matty Douglas penalty got Hawick's first points.
At the end of the first quarter - after good work by Euan Dods and Grant Somerville - Craig Dods scored an unconverted try and Gala were 12-3 up.
Luke Pettie's try then extended their lead further before a Lindsey Gibson try and a Douglas penalty for Hawick left Gala 17-11 up at the break.
Craig Dods' penalty made it 20-11 before two Hawick tries turned the game on its head.
They came from Scott McLeod and Greg Cottrell and the Greens were 21-20 up before Dods kept his cool to steal the victory for Gala at the death.
Joe Reynolds kicked seven penalties as Currie won 21-8 at Meggetland against Boroughmuir.
Currie took the lead in the 10th minute thanks to a penalty by Reynolds.
They then had most of the possession for a spell and doubled their advantage 17 minutes later when the same man kicked another penalty.Just after the half-hour mark a good run by Jordan Edmunds eventually set up Johnny Adams who scampered in for the unconverted try for 'Muir.
The hosts took the lead just before the break when David Reekie kicked a penalty to make it 8-6 and leave things delicately poised.
Boroughmuir started the second half with more purpose and in the 52nd minute they were held up over the Currie try line.
They kept the pressure up and four minutes later Currie replacement Mike Erskine was yellow-carded. A number of handling errors and wrong options meant 'Muir could not extend their lead, though.
And indeed they were made to pay when Reynolds kicked his third penalty, this one from a good 45 metres, to put Currie 9-8 up with 17 minutes remaining.
Four further penalties from the inside centre saw the visitors home.
Edinburgh Accies were the opponents for Heriot's, the latter coming through 28-26 at Raeburn Place. Tries for the visitors came from Ben Cogley, Gregor McNeish and Keith Buchan.
Austin Lockington and Tito Mua scored tries at Old Anniesland as Melrose managed to win 17-7 against Glasgow Hawks.
Meanwhile, Selkirk and GHA are still unbeaten in BT National League One.
Selkirk went to Dundee HSFP and came out on top 22-13 while GHA went up to Aberdeen Grammar and headed back down the road with a 23-18 victory.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
