Here's how the individual players fared:
LEIGH HALFPENNY: Kicked 13 points, missing only one shot at goal, and his consistency proved in stark contrast to woeful Wallabies accuracy. 8/10.
ALEX CUTHBERT: Scored a try on his Lions Test debut, finishing with trademark aplomb early in the second half. 7
BRIAN O'DRISCOLL: Made it two Lions Test wins from two attempts 12 years apart in Brisbane. Tireless in attack and defence. 7
JONATHAN DAVIES: Made his physical presence felt from the opening minutes. Relished the occasion. 7
GEORGE NORTH: Scored a breathtaking 60-metre solo try, and underlined his reputation as pure box office material. 9
JONATHAN SEXTON: Dipped in and out of the game. When he was good he was very good, but not always accurate. 7
MIKE PHILLIPS: Outplayed by his opposite number Will Genia and was unable to consistently stamp his authority on the game. 6
ALEX CORBISIERO: Delivered a strong 50-minute contribution in all phases of the game, particularly his scrummaging work. 7
TOM YOUNGS: Did little wrong, and was part of a potent Lions scrummage that gave Australia plenty to think about. 7
ADAM JONES: Departed 10 minutes into the second period following a solid evening's work, particularly at scrum time. 7
ALUN-WYN JONES: A typically workaholic effort by the Wales lock. Once again put in more than his fair share of tackles. 7
PAUL O'CONNELL: A colossal worker for the Lions in tight and loose exchanges. Showcased all his experience. 7
TOM CROFT: Gave the Lions a quality lineout option, and he roamed around the field in trademark fashion. 7
SAM WARBURTON: The Lions captain marked his first Test in charge by leading them to a nerve-tingling victory. Led from the front. 7
JAMIE HEASLIP: A tireless worker in the back-row battle between two breakaway units that went hammer and tongs at each other. 7
Replacements
Mako Vunipola: Took over from Corbisiero 10 minutes into the second half. 5
Dan Cole: Part of a double substitution as he went on with Vunipola, replacing Adam Jones. 6
Ben Youngs: Took over from a subdued Phillips midway through the second period. 6
Richard Hibbard: Gained a run in the final quarter instead of Tom Youngs. 6
Geoff Parling: Used in the second period instead of Alun-Wyn Jones. 6.
Dan Lydiate: Entered the action late on, replacing Croft. 6
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
