The third year students, aged 14 and 15, from Lenzie Academy on the outskirts of Glasgow, could face expulsion after being caught by security guards at Alton Towers in Staffordshire. They were part of a group of around 75 teachers and youngsters who travelled in three buses for the annual school outing. It is understood that teachers in charge were not with the teenagers at the time, but were later informed by Alton Towers personnel of the problem. Head teacher Roderick McLelland was informed and was waiting for them when they reached the school late on Friday night. The 11 were kept behind while Mr McLelland telephoned their parents. An East Dunbartonshire spokeswoman said: ''There is to be a full investigation.'' It is not the first time the academy has been rocked by controversy. In 1996, during its Christmas ball, a 15-year-old girl was taken to hospital and seven others were suspended for drunken antics. In October 1995, two12-year-old boys were suspended for dealing with drugs. It followed a string of other drug-related incidents. In 1994, a16-year-old was expelled for drug dealing, then re-admitted. Also that year, four pupils were suspended over claims of drug taking, and a 15-year-old boy was arrested outside school and charged with possessing cannabis.
