A GERMAN who has been working in Glasgow faces charges of sexually abusing girls and young women.

Mr Siegfried Armbruster, 37, is wanted by the German authorities to face five charges. His alleged victims are aged from 12 to 20.

An extradition hearing was held at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday before Sheriff Iain MacPhail, who ordered Mr Armbruster to be committed to Saughton Prison to await return to Germany.

Court papers said Mr Armbruster's address in Scotland was not known but stated that he had been working at Glasgow Informatics Europe plc, Atlantic Quay, Robertson Street, Glasgow.

Mr Armbruster is alleged to have carried out five attacks on females between March 1987 and October 1995.

He is alleged to have sexually assaulted some of the females in his car after threatening them with a knife. One charge alleges that he injected a teenager with drugs.

Sheriff MacPhail had to be satisfied that the crimes would be punishable by a jail term of more than a year in both Germany and Scotland.
