Bus drivers set to reveal action
UNION officials at Lothian Buses are expected to announce this morning what form of industrial action will be taken in support of a 12% wage claim.
Drivers and TGWU officials had meetings yesterday, at which the timing and extent of stoppages is believed to have been agreed.
Author calls for ancestry centres
A NETWORK of ancestry centres should be set up around Scotland to woo the Scottish diaspora interested in tracing their roots, according to a genealogy expert.
Alwyn James, author of a new guide to researching family trees, said ancestor hunting was growing in popularity but Scotland was failing to capitalise on the estimated 28 million people with Scottish roots.
Jet forced to make emergency landing
AN airliner flying from Glasgow to London with 140 passengers was forced to make an emergency landing at Heathrow Airport yesterday. British Airways flight 1483 was approaching the airport when the pilot became aware of a problem with the hydraulics. The plane landed safely and on schedule.
Teenager to join
pop's newest band
AN Edinburgh girl has been chosen as a member of pop's latest manufactured band. Stacy Roches, 13, of East Pilton Avenue, beat 1000 other hopefuls to win a place with the new group, X5, who will perform in front of an audience of 12,000 at the Disney Channel Kids Awards in London in October.
BBC presenters
tie the knot
BBC radio presenter Abeer Parkes and Kenny Macintyre, a sports journalist, have tied the knot, it emerged yesterday. Parkes married Macintyre, son of late BBC newsman Kenny Macintyre senior, on August 31 at Tillicoultry Parish Church, Clackmannanshire. More than 100 people were at the wedding and reception at Harviestoun Country Hotel in Tillicoultry.
Comedian recovers after collapse
JERRY Lewis, the comedian, was recovering yesterday after collapsing shortly before he was due to headline a charity concert on Sunday. Lewis, 76, who suffers from the lung disease pulmonary fibrosis, was taken ill backstage at the London Palladium during a comedy night in aid of Turning Point Scotland, a drug and alcohol treatment group.
Couple who died in road crash named
THE victims of a fatal road crash on the A1 near Dunbar in East Lothian, were yesterday named as James Jenkinson, 53, and his wife, Andrea, 51, from Whitburn, West Lothian. Police have appealed for witnesses to the accident, which took place last Friday night.
