MICHAEL McGill, winner of the Scottish hard-court singles crown, will

be bidding for a title double when he lines up in the Martin and Frost

national championships which begin on Sunday at Whitecraigs.

McGill, going for his third successive win in the men's singles, meets

first-year senior Ken Wood, who was the surprise packet in the

hard-court event. He defeated the No.3 seed, Ken Revie, 6-3, 7-6 in a

quarter-finals.

Revie and Wood are in the same half of the draw at Whitecraigs and,

indeed, Revie, who is No.2 seed, will be hard pressed to get to that

final and retain his No.2 national ranking.

Malcolm Watt, who gave Revie a hard battle in the West of Scotland

singles final, Iain Allan, a semi-finalist last year, and Blane Dodds

are also in Revie's half. McGill has his brother, Colin, and John Howie

in his half. The seedings are:

Men. Singles -- 1, Michael McGill (Colinton); 2, Ken Revie

(Broomhill); 3, John Howie (Whitecraigs); 4, Iain Allan (Broomhill); 5,

Blane Dodds (Broomhill); 6, Ken Wood (Dunfermline); 7, Malcolm Watt

(Newlands); 8, Colin McGill (Colinton).

Women. Singles -- 1, Karen Ross (Stirling University); 2, Jan Walker

(Girvan).

Wood (Dunfermline).

Men's singles qualifying rounds for 40 players start on Sunday at

Whitecraigs at 1.45pm. The seeded players will not play until Thursday.
