IT has been confirmed that an American-backed team will play out of the London Area next season bringing the capital out of ice hockey cold storage for the first time for four decades. Anschutz Properties, who have a major shareholding in National Hockey League side Los Angeles Kings, plan to put #7m into the project and the new side will play out of the heart of Docklands.

WESTHILL professional Ronnie McDonald grabbed six birdies in a 13-hole stretch on his way to a winning round of 65, five under par, in the North-east Alliance at Buckpool yesterday. McDonald bogeyed the second and was one over par after three holes before getting into his stride with birdies at the fourth, fifth, ninth, eleventh, twelfth and sixteenth in halves of 33 and 32. He won by one stroke from Stonehaven scratch amateur and former Montrose footballer Frank McCarron. Leading scores:
