David Marshall, the chief executive of Tennis Scotland, is anticipating a boom in interest in the game following Andy Murray's success at Wimbledon.

The 26-year-old first picked up a racket at his local club in Dunblane and Marshall is certain that young Scots will now be inspired to follow in his footsteps by taking to courts around the country.

It is an expectation which is informed by the increased participation in cycling following the success of Team GB at the Olympics and of Bradley Wiggins in the Tour de France, and the game's governing body has instructed local tennis clubs to help foster that interest.

"We would imagine the courts are going to be pretty busy," said Marshall. "We are really looking to increase participation on the back of Andy's success. It's a great story, so we're going to make it easier for them to try the game out, make it affordable and open to all."
