The Saturdays

Clyde Auditorium, Glasgow ***

Above a sea of tweeny neon, The Saturdays emerge on stage in 1950s style trench-coats for the opening gig of their first headline tour. Unknown a year ago, they've had a hurtling year of success with debut album Chasing Lights and hit singles If This Is Love and Up. The Saturdays seem to be the new face - and look and legs - of teeny pop so it's a shame the reality doesn't live up to the hype.

The trouble is that only Vanessa White can really sing. The other four look great, but vocally just can't cut it beside such a strong singer.

Opening their set with If This Is Love and closing with Up meant there could've been a lot of slow, dead space in between, but the girls managed to keep the gig upbeat, with plenty of covers (the best being their medley of Rihanna, Katy Perry and Pink) and a nicely done acoustic middle section with a cover of Madcon's Beggin' (which they recently performed in Radio 1's live lounge).
