William MacVitie "Mac" Lindsay

Born July 2, 1926Died November 7, 2008Mac Lindsay died of lung cancer at home with his beloved wife Margaret Jean "Peggy" Lindsay. He was 82 years old.

Mac was born in Annan, Scotland, and served in the the King's Own Scottish Borderers during the war.

He worked in sales for many years until, at the age 50, he found his niche, opening a "babywear" shop in Paisley, selling children's clothing. He retired in 1997.

Mac was past president of the Rotary Club in Renfrew, a Mason and an elder of Renfrew North Presbyterian Church.

Mac was a resident of Redmond and Bend, Oregon, since his marriage to Peggy 10 years ago. He was an active and beloved member of Nativity Lutheran Church and the Caledonian Society and took part in many Robert Burns celebrations in Scotland, Oregon and, this past year, in Hawaii.

When at their cottage in Yachats, OR, he attended the Yachats Presbyterian Church and had many friends there and in the Quiet Water community.

Mac is survived by his wife, Peggy, brother, Ian Lindsay and sister-in-law, Pat, of Renfrew, son, Kenneth Lindsay and daughter-in-law, Ina, of Houston, daughter, Gillian Robinson and son-in-law, Keith, of Carlisle, granddaughters, Lisa Robinson and Kathryn Lindsay, grandsons, Stuart Robinson and Mark Lindsay, niece, Allison Lindsay, daughter, Linda Beltram and son-in-law, Kevin of Bend, daughter, Susan Kelly and son-in-law, Paul, of Toronto, Canada, granddaughter, Lindsay Beltram and grandsons, Ryan Beltram and James and Sean Kelly.

Mac loved Peggy and his families and enjoyed golf, having played all the great courses in Scotland, travelling, doing crossword puzzles, watching sports and game shows on TV, and an afternoon libation at 4 p.m.!

He was known for his dignity, courtesy and his Scottish stories and great wit. He leaves an empty space in the hearts and lives of all who knew and loved him.
