Road Policing officers are appealing for information following a fatal road crash in Ayrshire.

Around 6am on Monday, police received a report a man had been struck by a Mazda 3 on the Old Glasgow Road in Kilwinning.

The man had been out walking his dog at the time.

Emergency services attended and the 79-year-old man was taken to hospital, where he died.

The man’s family has been notified and he can be named as George Dale, from Kilwinning. Unfortunately, the dog also died.

The road was closed for several hours to allow crash scene investigators conduct enquiries at the location.

Sergeant Martin Cunningham said: “Our thoughts are very much with George’s family and friends at this time, and we ask that their privacy is respected.

“We are in the process of establishing the full circumstances of what happened and I am appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident to get in touch with us.

“If you have dash cam equipment or any other recording equipment, please check the images as the footage could assist our ongoing investigation.”
