Police carrying out searches after reports that a man was trapped in a vehicle in floodwater near Marykirk, Aberdeenshire, on Friday have recovered the body of a man and a vehicle.

Police Scotland said that formal identification is still to take place, however his next of kin have been informed.

It takes the number of lives claimed by Storm Babet to three in Scotland and seven across the UK.

Earlier on Monday, police named a man who died after a tree struck his van near Forfar on Thursday.

John Gillan, 56, from Arbroath, was pronounced dead at the scene following the incident on the B9127 at Whigstree.

On Sunday, police named a woman who died following an incident at the Water of Lee, Glen Esk.

Around 1.45pm on Thursday, officers attended a report of a person having been swept into the river.

Around 4pm, the body of Wendy Taylor, 57, was recovered from the river.
