CRAIG GORDON (7): No chance at Iheanacho’s equaliser, but pulled off great close-range reflex stop from the same player’s audacious flick. Kicking good throughout, and would have been surprised to have been so untroubled during the second half.
EMILIO IZAGUIRRE (7): He may not be Kieran Tierney, but the Honduran displayed that he is still a more than decent full-back with an accomplished display. Bombed forward when the opportunity allowed and defended his corner really well.
MIKAEL LUSTIG (7): Willing runner down the right hand side for Celtic and got in behind Gael Clichy on a few occasions. Tireless energy and coped well with the threat of Leroy Sane’s pace and power.

JOZO SIMUNOVIC (7): Looked a little nervy early on and poor header almost put his side in trouble before partner Sviatchenko bailed him out. Protected his goalkeeper well in the second period and looked more assured as the game went on.
ERIK SVIATCHENKO (7): Solid showing from the central defender, even if he was a little careless in possession at times. Relentless movement of Iheanacho caused him problems at times, but he helped ensure the young striker was no more than a bit-part player in the second half.
SCOTT BROWN (8): Confidently strode around the middle of the park and passing was crisp. Good battle with Pablo Zabaleta and Fernando, with the Celtic captain never giving an inch.
STUART ARMSTRONG (8): Another eye-catching performance from the midfielder who is in the form of his life. Good use of the ball, and great energy to get up and down in support of both his defence and attack.

TOM ROGIC (8): Displayed his technique, showing deft feet and a lovely touch when in possession. Struck up a good partnership with Lustig down the right and can be well pleased with his display.
PATRICK ROBERTS (7): If Pep Guardiola wasn’t aware of the player he has in the on-loan winger, he does now. Scored a wonderful early goal before fading a little, but should have been awarded a penalty after being grabbed by Clichy.
JAMES FORREST (7): Often criticised for his lack of end product, but played Dembele in brilliantly after a weaving run past three City players. Good contribution before he was unfortunately forced from the field of play through injury at the start of the second half.
MOUSSA DEMBELE (6): Missed a great chance after being played in by Forrest and seems to be lacking the confidence that has been a hallmark of his time at Celtic so far. Was quiet in the second half before being replaced by Griffiths with 20 minutes remaining.
SUBSTITUTES:
GARY MACKAY-STEVEN (6): Rare run-out for the winger in place of James Forrest early in the second half and showed up well. Eager to receive the ball and used it well when he did. Also got back brilliantly to snuff out a blistering City counter-attack by keeping pace with Sane.
LEIGH GRIFFITHS (5): On for Dembele and placed the sort of opportunity he is renowned for gobbling up just wide when he might have done better. Good pass to MacKay-Steven to set up a decent chance.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
