THE mansion of a bankrupt Scots tycoon that was hailed as one of the finest homes in Scotland has been sold in a cut-price deal for just in excess of £2.5 million.

Graham Gillespie’s house has been snapped up by property entrepreneur Elliot Robertson after more than a year on the market, with the proceeds going towards paying off Mr Gillespie’s creditors.

The grand property, called Kirkton Park, in Auchterarder, Perthshire, cost about £10m to build, making it the country’s most expensive modern home.

However, it was put up for sale for offers over £3.4m by Mr Gillespie’s bankruptcy trustee in January last year in a bid to pay off his multimillion-pound debts.

The Herald:

Mining and property magnate Mr Gillespie, 59, was made bankrupt in 2012 with debts of £12.8m after his business empire crumbled.

The price of his home was cut by almost £500,000 earlier this year in a bid to find a buyer.

Property records show it was sold to Elgin-based businessman Robertson, 42, for £2,550,000 earlier this month.

He is a director at family construction firm the Robertson Group and has also run several house building and property companies in the north of Scotland.

Kirkton Park sits in seven acres of grounds and its entrance features a stone fountain and a manmade pond.

The home, built in 2007, has its own cinema room, a billiards room, a wine store, a gym, summer house, four-car garage and study.

Interior pictures also show it boasts a spa with Jacuzzi, steam room, Rasul mud room and a salt cave with two heated benches.

The property is said to have been viewed by a number of leading Scottish business figures and footballers prior to being sold.
