Condolences to Agnes and the family. Ken was an avid supporter of the railways. I believe he had a much wider impact - perhaps greater than he himself realised - on the safeguarding and development of the rail network. I recall his kind words of encouragement and tireless hours of support for our group of young enthusiasts who founded the Friends of the West Highland Line in the early 1980s. I have come across many other people with similar stories who had been supported by Ken in their own railway campaigns. Ken’s legacy will live on for many years.

Very saddened to read this news. Ken was a well respected colleague at Anniesland College and helped me enormously when I was just starting out in my teaching career and throughout my 21 years at the college where I worked very closely with him teaching Social Science and Modern Studies. We often shared stories of our families and enjoyed chats about rail and road networks, particularly the routes to Inverness and beyond. I know he had a special fondness for Ullapool and I use to enjoy reading his letters about railways which were often published in The Herald. He often shared his love of Politics and Geography and even now when I see a map of GB on a weather report I recall him complaining that Scotland was shown as too small and leaning the wrong way! Ken was a lovely, caring and knowledgeable lecturer and there are many people who have benefitted from his teaching and guidance. My thoughts now are with Agnes and sons Euan and David.
