A US jewellery firm wants to enlist another 450 people to sell its products in Scotland in a fresh take on the home-based sales approach pioneered by "Avon ladies".
Stella & Dot is seeking self-employed agents to sell products in their homes in the hope of achieving a big following in Scotland.
The company believes it has scope to achieve fast growth in Scotland, where research suggests as many as 265,000 women may fit its target audience profile.
Stella & Dot targets well-educated women in the 25 to 55 age group who live in households with an annual income of £25,000 or more.
A spokeswoman said: "There is a strategic imperative for us in having stylists [self-employed agents]."
The company has 50 stylists in Scotland.
The spokeswoman said Stella & Dot is keen to recruit in Glasgow and Edinburgh, and has high hopes of building a strong presence in Aberdeen, where many expats from North America may already know the brand.
The company was started in 2009 by a young American serial entrepreneur Jessica Herrin.
Stella & Dot has grown sales from $33 million in the first year to $200m in 2012.
After selling $10m of products in the UK last year, the company aims to triple sales in the next three years. It has 1200 stylists in the UK, with many in London and the south-east.
The spokeswoman said many stylists are women who want the flexibility offered by working for themselves.
Stylists can buy a starter set of samples from the company for £160. They receive commission of 25% to 30% on sales net of VAT.
