ZONAL, the Edinburgh-based supplier of EPoS (electronic point of sale) systems to the hospitality trade, has acquired digital marketing company TXD.

Midlands-based TXD provides major pub groups and nightclubs with digital marketing solutions, ranging from email and mobile marketing services to app and web design.

Zonal said TXD's services complemented the hospitality management tools it provided, such as electronic and hand-held ordering terminals and stock management software.

Zonal managing director Stuart McLean said the two companies had got to know each other through working for mutual clients over the past year, including a project creating a new app for Mastercard in France. He declined to comment on the value of the deal.

Mr McLean said: "We just think the people and the technology they've got will help is fill a gap and complete our product set.

"If you think of the way our technology moves from being behind the bar, where bar staff are on a till, to creating the orders on your own apps and TXD also being web developers, it is a big step forward for us."

Mr McLean said no jobs would be lost and TXD would retain its name and continue to be run in Stafford. With TXD employing 10 staff, the two companies will have a combined workforce of 255 staff.

In its most recent accounts available at Companies House, Zonal reported pre-tax profits of £989,388 in the year ended June 30, 2012, compared with £2.72m the year before, in a year that saw it make a "million pound plus investment" in its warehouse, logistics and manufacturing facility in Livingston. Group turnover rose to £36.2m from £29.9m.
