GLASGOW-based Urban Wind has won contracts to develop three wind energy projects in the UK, which will involve £3 million total investment.

The company will erect a 500 kilowatt turbine on a farm in Fife. It will install 100kW turbines on sites in Cambridgeshire, and Pembrokeshire. Paul McCullagh, chief executive of UrbanWind, said: "We have started the year very strongly, with a growing number of projects across the UK confirmed or in the pipeline." He added: "We are also finding a growing appetite for medium-scale wind turbine technology from landowners and agricultural businesses in particular." The company said it has around 80 potential turbine sites around the UK in the planning process, with others being assessed for technical and commercial viability. Work on the Fife project will start in February. Work on the other two new projects will commence in March.
