Edward Chandler, a user experience consultant for leading websites, took exception to the break-up of Lloyds TSB last year.

"I was a happy Lloyds customer and didn't want to be moved to TSB," he said.

This week he activated the switching service to complete a transfer from TSB to his new Reward account with the Halifax, the Lloyds brand which re-entered the Scottish market just over a year ago.

"I already have a mortgage and a credit card with them and that made a difference," Edinburgh-based Mr Chandler said. He is able to manage his buy-to-let mortgage more easily, as well as being impressed with the Halifax's Clarity card, which offers free overseas transactions. The Reward account pays £5 a month to customers in credit who are paying in £750, while spending £300 on the Clarity card triggers a further £5 cashback. "It's about getting something back for using the card, and if I do spend that it could be a reward of £120 a year," Mr Chandler said.
