MOST Scottish businesses have access to broadband communications systems while a clear majority believe digital resources are key to their operations' success, research has found.

In a survey of over 4,000 businesses, 92 per cent said they had access to a broadband connection. Some 75% said digital technologies were either essential or important for their current operations and future growth or competitiveness. The most widely used digital tools were company websites, mobile technologies and social media. Deputy First Minister John Swinney said: "I am encouraged by the survey's results, which highlight the growth in Scotland's digital economy and will play a key role in informing and targeting our continuing efforts to make Scotland a world class digital economy." The survey was commissioned by the Scottish Government and development agencies.
