The Scottish Farmer, established in 1893, is to create a digital archive of photographs which will preserve a definitive record of farming in Scotland over the last century.

The archive, sponsored by SRUC, will be held at Scotland's Museum of Rural Life at Kittochside, near East Kilbride.

It will also be available to view on The Scottish Farmer website, where more than 3000 images from Scotland's farming past have already been added, and can also be purchased, at http://thescottishfarmer.newsprints.co.uk/.

Alasdair Fletcher, editor, said: "In its 122-year history, The Scottish Farmer has built up a reputation for photographic excellence, recording the iconic moments in our proud farming history."

Magazine publisher Darren Bruce said the archive would launch with a 16-page commemorative supplement dedicated to the Royal Highland Show in the June 20 issue, followed by a series of part works over the next 12 months.
