RANGERS director John Gilligan has returned to a high-profile position with Tennent Caledonian Breweries (TCB).

The licensed trade veteran, who had scaled back his role at TCB after stepping down as managing director in 2014, will lead the sales team at subsidiary WallacesTCB following the departure of on-trade sales director Matt Munro.

TCB, which completed its takeover of the former Wallaces Express wholesale business last year, said that Mr Munro has left the business with "immediate effect".

C&C Group, the Dublin-based owner of TCB, said last week that the integration of Wallaces business is among several "transitional" factors which would hit full-year profits by €10 million in its current financial year

Sales in Scotland have also been affected by the stricter drink-driving limit introduced in December.

A spokesman for Wallaces TCB said: “We wish to thank Matt for his contribution to the business and for his help in integrating the Scotland sales team, and wish him every success for the future.

“We’re pleased to announce that John Gilligan will be leading our sales force for the next few months until such time as we are able to appoint a replacement. John is a well-known and respected member of the team having previously served as managing director of TCB.

“We are actively recruiting for the position of on-trade sales director and will make an announcement in due course.”
