Wallets Marts sold 2000 prime lambs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £80.50 per head and 188.2p per kg to average 162.4p (+5.8p).
There were also 279 cast sheep forward when ewes sold to £96 for Texels and £57.50 for Blackfaces.
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 33 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1368.80 per head and 233p per kg to average £1175 and 210p, while a prime bullock fetched £974 or 191p.
In the rough ring a plain show of cows were still difficult to cash with 85 beef cows averaging 101.7p and 140 dairy cows levelling at 73.4p. Five bulls averaged 74.3p.
A larger show of 19 dairy cattle sold to £1400 for a Holstein Friesian cow and averaged £1189.
The firm also had a plainer show of 44 beef-breeding cattle forward that met a similar trade to the last sale. Top prices and averages: Heifers with calf-at-foot to £2150 and averaged £1668.75 for 16; cows and calves averaged £1030 for 4; in-calf heifers to £1180 and averaged £1009 for 9; bulling heifers £1100 and £984.66 for 15.
