Wallets Marts report there was only a handful of store and OTM cattle - 24 head in total - forward at their sale in Castle Douglas yesterday due to adverse weather conditions making farm roads impassable.
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1005 prime hoggs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £95 per head and 200p per kg to average 170.7p (+4.4p on the week).
A large show of 617 cast sheep saw ewes sell to £119 for Texels and £64.50 for Blackfaces, with the overall average levelling at £58.15.
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 43 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 239p per kg and an average of 209.5p (+2.9p), while 20 prime bullocks peaked at 227p and levelled at 201.6p (-2.7p). Five prime bulls sold to 169p and averaged 158p.
In the rough ring 84 beef cows averaged 119p (+3.3p).
There were also 1436 prime hoggs that sold to a top of £106 per head and 218.2p per kg to average £76 and 176.5p (+6p).
The 708 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £106 for Suffolk Crosses and average £68.50, while light ewes peaked at £73 for Cheviots and levelled at £47.03.
The firm also sold 17 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 217.5p and an average of 195.1p (+5.7p), while 15 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 209.5p and levelled at 179.1p (+0.6p). Four prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 141.5p and averaged 135p (-10p). Fifty-two prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 220.5p and averaged 117p (-2.1p), while 50 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 162.5p and levelled at 127.8p (-11.9p).
In the rough ring 144 beef cows averaged 120.1p (-1.4p) and 202 dairy cows levelled at 83.5p (-1.6p). Eight bulls averaged 136.4p (+22p).
There were also 2969 prime hoggs forward that sold to £97.80 and 240.5p to average 175.4p (+0.2p).
A small show of 123 cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to £87 for Suffolks and average £66.50, while light ewes peaked at £47.50 for Hill Cheviots and levelled at £43.21.
Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 15 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 248p and an average of 238.1p (+5.1p), while 15 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 238p and levelled at 215.3p (+4.2p). Twenty prime, B&W bullocks sold to 167p and averaged 135.8p (+0.6p).
In the rough ring 15 beef cows averaged 117.2p (+9.1p) and 48 dairy cows levelled at 80.8p (+5.1p).
The firm also sold 1792 prime hoggs to a top of £94 and 214.3p to average 177.2p (+5.5p).
A nice show of 533 cast sheep saw ewes sell to £125.50 for a Texel and £61.50 for Blackfaces, with the overall average levelling at £62.11.
