STAR Refrigeration, the Glasgow-based refrigeration and heating contractor, has appointed its former group engineering director Dr Andy Pearson to the position of group managing director.

One of the leading names in the refrigeration and engineering industry, Dr Pearson’s work is world renowned. It includes editing books on ammonia and carbon dioxide for the International Institute of Refrigeration and writing extensively on subjects related to industrial refrigeration, including safety, energy efficiency and system design improvements.

Established in 1970, Star has around 300 staff and is known for industry breakthroughs including the first use of carbon dioxide in a freeze drying application (2001), the first distribution warehouse with a cascade ammonia/carbon dioxide system (2002) and the first use of carbon dioxide in IT cooling (2005).

Dr Pearson has been working for Star since 1986 and has been group engineering director since 2010.
