CITB Scotland fills top post

The Construction Industry Training Board has appointed Ian Hughes as its new Strategic Partnerships Director for Scotland.

Mr Hughes will be the senior representative for CITB in Scotland, working in partnership with employers, federations, local and national stakeholders and the Scottish Government, to ensure that the construction industry has the skills and talent that it needs.

He joins from Glasgow Caledonian University where he spent three years as Deputy Director of Development. Mr Hughes is a past winner of the UK Social Enterprise Entrepreneur of the Year Award, and was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts Manufacture and Commerce in 2010 for services to Enterprise.

“There are clear opportunities to support industry through enabling and investing in training, and by collaboratively positioning the construction sector as a key economic driver within Scotland,” he said.

Psigma makes key Edinburgh appointment

London-based Psigma Investment Management has appointed Simon Kay as Business Development Director of its two-year old Edinburgh office.

Mr Kay joins from SEI Investments where he spent more than six years as a Director of Asset Management Distribution. With more than 17 years’ experience in the financial services sector, Mr Kay has also worked at blue chip asset management companies Aberdeen, Investec and Close Finsbury.

He began his career in Scotland working for Standard Life and then for Friends Ivory & Sime.

Management changes at net firm

Kilbirnie-based fish farm net manufacturer W & J Knox has made two internal appointments to its board.

Managing director Jim Traynor, who has been with the firm since 1979 and successfully led a management buyout from Cosalt in 2004, becomes chairman and is succeeded as managing director by Dave Hutchens, who joined the company in 2008.

Mr Hutchens has worked in the industry since 1980 and has been taking an increasing role in the management of the business since the sale of the company’s fibres division in 2013. Roger Dehany becomes deputy chairman and is succeeded by his assistant for many years, Finlay Oman, who becomes commercial director.

Mr Hutchens said: “I am looking forward to this exciting new challenge and will continue to develop our excellent relationship with the Scottish aquaculture sector.

“I am taking the helm of a well stewarded, robust business and I am particularly pleased that I will be able to draw upon the experience and knowledge of Jim and Roger in their roles as chairman and deputy chairman.”
