CHIVAS Brothers has launched a £100,000 programme to provide education and training bursaries for talented people. The whisky business said it will provide bursaries worth £15,000 in total to help employees of the firm and their direct relatives to develop their talents via further education or vocational training. The bursaries will be worth up to £5,000 a year over three years. The remaining £85,000 will be distributed by the Scottish International Education Trust, which provides help for Scots who have shown ability and promise to pursue their studies or professional training in circumstances where public funds are not available. The trust was founded in 1971 by Sir Sean Connery and Sir Jackie Stewart. Both remain Trustees. Owned by French drinks giant Pernod Ricard, Chivas Brothers has 1,600 employees in operations ranging from the Scapa Distillery on Orkney to the Plymouth Gin business.
