Wallets Marts sold 252 store heifers in Castle Douglas on Monday to a top of £1190 per head and 250p per kg to average £818 and 205.3p (+9.6p on the fortnight, but -7p on the year), while 491 store bullocks peaked at £1320 and 258.6p to level at £924.11 and 214.4p (+7.9p but -8p on the year).

The firm went on to sell 1082 prime lambs in the same venue yesterday to a top of £100 per head and 246.3p per kg to average £76.71 and 188.1p (+2.6p on the week).

A larger show of cast sheep saw 372 heavy ewes sell to £116 for Texels and average £70.76, while 214 light/export-type ewes peaked at £57 for Blackfaces and levelled at £27.16.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 11 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1281.50 and 236.5p to average £1210.82 and 226.7p, while a prime bullock fetched £1170 or 200p.

In the rough ring 46 beef cows averaged 120.3p and 97 dairy cattle levelled at 100.1p. Five bulls averaged 109.4p and 14 clean OTM cattle levelled at 145.6p.

There were also 22 dairy cattle forward that sold to £1900 for a Holstein Friesian heifer and averaged £1287.33.
