Grounded

EVEN airline chief executives get grounded from time to time.

The Bottom Line was all geared up to interview Pieter Elbers, boss of Dutch airline KLM, last week, only to be told at the last minute that he would not be able to attend for logistical reasons.

In a classic case of irony, it turned out Mr Elbers’ plane was late.

Happily for the airline executive, and indeed this correspondent, his colleague Benedicte Duval, KLM’s general manager for the UK and Ireland, stepped in as a more than capable replacement.

Dogs have day

DOG owners can be assured of a warm welcome at the Royal Dunkeld Hotel.

The hotel, as the image signals, expects humans to pay for beer, wine and food. But biscuits and water are free for their canine friends.

We do love a dog-friendly pub.

Chamber return

RUSSELL Wardrop, chief executive of training firm Kissing With Confidence, will show his gratitude to the Junior Chamber International (JCI) at the University of Strathclyde later this month.

Mr Wardrop will return to the chamber to deliver a motivational speech to more than 100 young professionals at the chamber on March 20.

Now a JCI senator, who was a member of the organisation from 1988 to 2000, Mr Wardrop said his time at the chamber had been a huge influence on him. He said: “Junior Chamber International has affected the lives of tens of thousands of young people and it certainly inspired me. It would not be exaggerating to say that, without JCI, I would not have the business I now run. I will be delighted to bring my experience to such a talented young audience.”
