New images resulting from an architectural link-up with six Glasgow practices putting forward innovative ideas for the redesign of a major housing site in the city have been released.

The Dundashill project, which is being delivered by Scottish Canals, Bigg Regeneration and Igloo, will create 600 high quality houses on the former Diageo distillery site at Port Dundas.

The wider project includes a pilot scheme for property buyers to choose a house-type from a selection of architects, with a menu of custom choices including external materials and internal layouts to suit individual lifestyles, with a clean energy theme throughout.

The site, owned by Scottish Canals, will also benefit from energy efficient street lighting and an intelligent water management system that carries surface water runoff into the nearby Forth and Clyde Canal.

Igloo says: "The neighbourhood is fast gaining prominence as an alternative, creative destination where watersports and urban adventure activities blend with a strong arts and cultural presence. There is a pioneering spirt in the area, showing how this can influence regeneration right from the start.

"The 600 home masterplan prepared for the Dundashill site provides an opportunity for high density urban and custom housing focused on the strong creative and design led identity of the city."
