THE Royal George Hotel in Perth has been put up for sale with an asking price of around £3 million, having been owned by the same family for 20 years.

Property agent Colliers International is acting for Eddie and Lorna Anderson, and their son Ed, in the sale of the three-star, 46-bedroom hotel.

Colliers said the city centre hotel, overlooking the River Tay, produced “good and regular profitability”.

The property agent noted the Royal George had been a landmark of Perth since early Victorian times, with an inn having been on the Tay Street premises for around 250 years.

The hotel says on its website that “when Queen Victoria stayed here in 1848, she could look from her window on a little corner of Perth which played a greater part than any other in the history of the city”.

Colliers highlighted the fact that the hotel’s basement had been leased recently to Perth Gin, a start-up distillery venture.

The property agent noted that Eddie Anderson had worked in the hotel trade for 50 years, adding that the Royal George was being offered for sale to “facilitate his retirement”.

The hotel has a bar, restaurant, conservatory, function room and meeting room facilities.

Colliers noted the hotel’s proximity to Horsecross Conference and Concert Hall, Perth Museum, Perth Theatre, and the City Hall.

Alistair Letham, a director in the UK hotels agency team at Colliers International, said: “The Royal George Hotel has been an important…business on the Perth hotel scene for centuries, and this continues to this day ¬¬- even more so thanks to its superb location overlooking the River Tay and close to all the major venues and attractions in the city centre of Perth.”

He added: “The Royal George Hotel is an extremely well-established and well-known hotel business and it produces good and regular profitability.”

Colliers said: “An exciting addition in 2019 is the lease of premises in the basement to Perth Gin, to develop and create a gin distillery on the premises.”
