HARRISON & Hetherington sold 32 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 239p and an average of 209p (+1p), while 20 prime bullocks peaked at 228p and levelled at 202p (+2p). Five prime bulls sold to 150p and averaged 141p (n/c).
In the rough ring 25 cast cows sold to £1,383 and 165p to average 134p (+12p).
There were also 1431 prime lambs that sold to £118 and 224p for Texels to average 196p (-14p).
There were 517 ewes in the cast sheep section which averaged £70 overall. Heavy ewes sold to £115 for Texels and average £84, while light ewes peaked at £81 for Cheviots and levelled at £60.
The firm also sold 18 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 243p and an average of 202p (+1p), while 18 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 230p and levelled at 202p (+4p). Fifty-four prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 199p and averaged 172p (-2p), while 42 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 171p and levelled at 139p (+5p).
In the rough ring 122 cast dairy cows peaked at 150p and averaged 106p (+2p), while 91 cast beef cows sold to 183p and levelled at 133p (+9p). Thirteen cast bulls made up to 155p and averaged 114p (-7p).
There were also 1,561 prime lambs that sold to £116 and 269p to average 204p (-11p).
In the cast sheep ring this week 222 heavy ewes sold to £125 for Texels and averaged £86 (+£7), while four light Swaledale ewes sold for £44 (-£8.00).
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1,221 prime lambs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £105 per head and 212p/kg for Texels, to average 194p (-14p).
There was also a larger offering of 438 cast sheep this week that sold to a top of £150 for a pair of Texel ewes. Mules peaked at £72 and Blackfaces made up to £62 for a pen of ten.
Lawrie and Symington sold 76 cattle comprising 27 Prime Cattle and 49 Cast Cows at their weekly primestock sale at Lanark Yesterday. Top prices were £1,445 and 252p/kg for Limousin heifers, while prime bullocks sold to £1,391 and 232p. Young bulls peaked at £1,383 per head.
In the rough ring cast beef cows topped at £1,080 and 148p, while cast dairy cows peaked at £930 and 125p. Cast bulls sold to £1410.
In the sheep ring the firm sold 2,307 sheep sold comprising 971 prime lambs and 1,336 cast ewes & tups.
The sale topped at £107 for Texels and 247p for Beltex. The overall average was 188p (-20p).
The cast ewes were topped at £145 for Texels and £62 for Blackfaces.
