Tasty line-up

THE line-up may not be as hotly anticipated as the bill for the next Glastonbury Festival. But there is no doubt many beer lovers will be eagerly looking to see what Aldi has in store for its next Scottish Beer Festival.

The discounter has just revealed the star attractions for its 18th celebration of craft beer made on these shores, which we are told will showcase 35 “exceptional” products from seven Scottish breweries.

Even writing about it is enough to give us a drouth.

That’s the spirit

FROM hops to malts and we hear there is reason to celebrate for one of Scotland’s newest whisky firms.

Inverclyde-based Ardgowan has seen its first ever whisky, Expedition, short-listed in three categories at the Scottish Whisky Awards 2019. Expedition is a 20-year-old blended malt which includes spirit from single casks from upper Speyside and the northern Highlands.

The 600-bottle run also contains whisky which travelled to the South Pole and back, carried by polar explorer Robert Swan OBE. Hardly surprising it costs £500 a bottle.

Helping hand

LUXURY whisky, of course, is not within everyone’s budget, and recognition ought to be given to those who are helping others.

Launch Foods, a not-for-profit enterprise, said it has provided 40,000 free meals in just 38 weeks for Glasgow primary school children.

The group is supported by Highland Spring, Simon Howie and Glasgow’s Skypark, which has provided space for food preparation.
