MESSRS Craig Wilson Ltd sold eight heifers at Ayr on Tuesday to a top of 230p/kg to average £214p, while one prime bullock sold to 210p.
There were also 100 cattle sold in the rough ring. Cast beef cows sold to £1,200 and 171p, while cast dairy cows peaked at £950. Two cast bulls sold to £1,190 and averaged 116p, while Clean, OTM cattle peaked at £1,020 for an overage British Blue steer.
Twenty-six dairy cattle were sold which included six freshly calved cows that reached a top of £1,920 for an Ayrshire second calved cow. Twenty Friesian bulling heifers peaked at £840 and averaged £805.
Lawrie and Symington held its annual show and sale of 4,140 Scotch mule ewes, gimmers and ewe lambs along with Texel and Continental ewes and gimmers on Tuesday. Notably the Texel and continental gimmers obtained a premium and were keenly sought after. Ewe lambs were a good show for quality and met a fast trade.
The pre-sale show of gimmers was won by a pen consigned by J Paterson, East Dykes, Strathaven, which went on to realise £155 selling to the judge. The reserve pen came from Mr McKenzie, Ardgate, which realised £136.
In the ewe lamb section the champion pen went to regular consignors J & A Galloway, Lochlyoch, which realised £132. The reserve champion pen was from Newmains Home Farm, Douglas, and sold to £102. Out-with the show, mule gimmers topped at £162 twice, while Texel gimmers sold to £172. The 1212 Mule gimmers averaged £130, while 862 Mule ewe lambs averaged £91. Meanwhile, 787 ewes averaged £70 and 512 Texel cross gimmers averaged £125.
Messrs Craig Wilson had 1181 prime lambs forward at their weekly sale in Newton Stewart yesterday. Top prices on the day were £90 per head and 189p/kg for Beltex. The overall average levelled at 170p (-4p).
Cast sheep were topped by heavy ewes selling to £124 for Texels, while light/export-type ewes peaked at £59.50 for Blackfaces.
C&D Auction Marts held its weekly sale of 3,072 store lambs and feeding ewes at Longtown Yesterday. The highlight of the sale was a run of Beltex ewe lambs which sold to £125, £105, £104. Other store lambs sold to £80 for Beltex; £69 for Texels and 64.50 for Suffolks. Meantime, 242 Feeding ewes sold to £64 for Texels and Greyfaces, while Blackface sold to £56.
The firm also held its weekly sale of primestock in Dumfries yesterday when there were 60 Cattle forward.
Prime cattle sold to 224p/kg for a Limousin heifer, while OTM cattle peaked at £1,000 and 120p. There were also 742 prime lambs which sold to £95 and 196p.
