Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 42 prime heifers at St Boswells yesterday which peaked at 237p/kg and averaged 199p (-8p), while 11 prime bullocks sold to 234p and levelled at 184p (+1p).
In the rough ring 74 cast cows sold to £1218 and 171p to average 112p (-3p).
The 1733 prime lambs sold to £96.50 and 222.5p for Beltex lambs to average 163p (+5p).
In the cast sheep ring the overall average for 522 head was £55.50 which was a rise on the week before. Heavy ewes sold to £97 for Texels and averaged £75, while light ewes peaked at £71 for Cheviots and averaged £43.
The firm also sold 30 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 240p and an average of 208p (+3p), while 21 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 218p and levelled at 183p (-15p). One hundred and one prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 227p and averaged 174p (-12p), while 44 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 172p and levelled at 145p (+2p).
In the Rough Ring 149 cast dairy cows sold to 139p and averaged 87p (-1p), while 132 cast beef cows peaked at 188p and averaged 112p (+1p). Ten cast bulls made up to 130p and averaged 110p (+13p).
There were also 1887 prime lambs that sold to £109 and 259p/kg to average 173p (+11p).
In the cast sheep ring 196 heavy ewes sold to £117 for Beltex and averaged £69 (+£13), while 35 light ewes peaked at £68 for Blackface and levelled at £38 (+£6).
C & D Auction Marts Ltd had 315 store cattle forward at their fortnightly sale in Dumfries yesterday. The cattle were mainly forward stores and sold to a top of £1090 for Charolais heifers and to £1000 for Charolais bullocks.
There were also 153 breeding cattle at the sale which peaked at £1680 for Simental cow with bull calf.
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 2524 sheep in Ayr yesterday comprising 1893 prime lambs and 631 cast ewes. Prime lambs sold to a top of £94 for a heavy Texel and 189p for a pen of six Beltex to average 162p overall (+1p).
Cast sheep peaked at £127 for Texels, while Mule ewes sold to £66 and Blackfaces topped at £55.50 for a pen of 40.
Caledonian Marts Ltd had forward 413 Store Cattle and Suckled Calves at Stirling yesterday.
Bullock calves sold to 237p on three occasions to average 228p overall.
Store bullocks sold to 215p for a pen of 21 Aberdeen Angus and to a top of £1110 for a pen of Limousins to average 191p.
Store heifers sold to 210p for Limousins and to £1270 for a Simmental to average 188p.
