AYRSHIRE-based restaurant and bar operator Buzzworks Holdings, which manages 12 venues and employs more than 500 people, has acquired Lucky 7 in Kilmarnock.

The purchase follows hard on the heels of Buzzworks’ acquisition of The Jefferson in Kilmarnock town centre in February.

Buzzworks, which has a portfolio including the Lido outlets in Prestwick and Troon and The Corner House in Kilwinning, said that the Lucky 7 premises would close for refurbishment.

The family-owned business added that all of the Lucky 7 staff would be retained and offered positions at other Buzzworks venues while the refurbishment work was being undertaken.

Buzzworks increased its turnover by nine per cent to £16.2 million during the 12 months to April 29 last year, the latest period for which accounts have been filed at Companies House.

However, pre-tax profits dipped from £694,248 to £120,679. In these accounts, the company cited “external pressure from increased supplier costs and the impact on rate of pay from National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage”.

Kenny Blair, managing director of Buzzworks Holdings, said: “Kilmarnock is an area where we see so much potential and these two opportunities allow us to become a bigger part of the local community where we operate.

“So many of our team live in the surrounding area so it’s important for us to always retain and build on that local connection.”

Buzzworks, which puts its current annual turnover at more than £18 million and is developing a new head office next to The Jefferson on Grange Street, said of its plans for Lucky 7: “Buzzworks is set to invest both in the venue and training of staff to bring the establishment in line with its existing portfolio, ensuring that customers visiting from the local community and beyond can enjoy great food, an extended drinks selection and fantastic service.”

The Long House in Kilmarnock is among Buzzworks’ outlets.
