MESSRS Craig Wilson sold 187 prime and cast cattle at its weekly sale at Ayr on Tuesday.
Fourteen prime heifers averaged 224p or £1,205 and peaked at £1,401 or 248p/kg for a Limousin. A single, beef-bred Limousin bullock sold for 230p or £1,288. Two, dairy-bred bullocks sold to £1,092 and 190p to average 157p or £1,017. One young bull sold for £1,237 or 166p.
In the rough ring 57 beef cows peaked at £1,220 or 173p for the same Limousin, while 97 dairy cows sold to £1,080 and 115p for different Friesians to average 94p overall. Eight cast bulls were topped at £1,150 and 139p for a British Blue to average 98p.
Seven clean cattle peaked at 183p for a Limousin heifer or £1,100 for an Aberdeen Angus heifer to average 148p.
Eleven dairy cattle sold at the firm’s pedigree sale were topped at 2050gns by a Holstein Friesian heifer.
Meanwhile, trade in the commercial section peaked at £1,900 for another Holstein Friesian heifer.
C&D Auction Marts sold 5,097 store hoggs, cast rams and feeding ewes at Longtown on Tuesday.
Trade for hill hoggs would be dearer but best hoggs would be slightly easier overall. A feature of the sale was an outstanding entry of Beltex hoggs from one consignor which sold to £109 and averaged £93.66 overall. Cast rams made up to £120 for Texels, while the 396 feeding ewes at the sale were much dearer this week and sold to a top of £140.
Caledonian Marts sold 1,806 prime hoggets and cast sheep at Stirling on Tuesday.
Well fleshed and good quality lambs met a similar trade to last week.
Overall sale average for 1,251 Hoggets was 202p/kg (-1.1p on the week) selling to a top of 260p/kg for a 40kg Beltex. Top price of the day went to a Beltex at 50kg realising £119.
There were 555 cast ewes and tups which all sold at increased rates.
Heavy ewes averaged £102 selling to £151 for a pen of five Texels, while export ewes averaged £66 selling to £74 for Cheviots.

Top prices on the day were £105 per head for heavy Texels and for heavy Suffolks, while a pen of Beltex lambs topped the sale per kilo at 235p. A good show of 348 Blackface hoggets sold to average 208p or £79.37 selling to £90 for one pen and to 229p for another pen of 36. The 1,143 prime hoggets averaged 209p.
Cast ewes would be slightly easier this week selling to £118 for Suffolks. Mules sold to £99 and Blackfaces peaked at £75.50 for a pen of 30.
