HARRISON & Hetherington sold 49 clean cattle, 41 cast cows, 1,640 prime hoggets and 453 cast sheep at St Boswells yesterday.
Thirty-three prime heifers sold to a top of 240p/kg to average 216p (n/c), while 16 prime bullocks peaked at 239p and averaged 209p (+2p).
In the rough ring cast cows sold to £1,542 and 183p to average 137p (-2p).
Prime hoggets sold to £143 and 334p for Beltex to average £103 or 242p (+4p).
In the cast sheep ring the average was £77.64 for all sheep. Heavy ewes sold to £120 for Suffolks and averaged £95, while light ewes peaked at £94 for Cheviots and averaged £71.
The firm also sold 32 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 237p/kg to average 205p (+2p), while 19 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 219p and levelled at 202p (+2p). There was one dairy bred prime bullock that sold for 148p/kg.
There were also a total of 80 young bulls at the sale yesterday which averaged 173p overall (+1p). The 58 prime, beef-bred young bulls sold to 236p and averaged 184p (-2p), while the 22 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 170p and levelled at 144p (n/c).
In the rough ring 199 cast dairy cows sold to 159p and averaged 111p (-4p), while 106 cast beef cows peaked at 185p and averaged 138p (-1p). Eleven cast bulls made up to 168p and averaged 132p (-4p).
There were also 2037 prime hoggets that sold to £141 and 318p/kg to average 240p (-5p).
In the cast sheep ring 96 heavy ewes sold to £143 for a Texel and averaged £96 (-£6), while 65 light ewes peaked at £95 for a Blackface and levelled at £64 (-£7).
Messrs Craig Wilson sold 1,878 sheep comprising 1,415 prime hoggets and 463 cast sheep at Ayr Yesterday.
Top prices were £131 for Texels and 288p/kg for a pair of Beltex with the whole sale averaging 242p. Blackface hoggets sold to £128 or 251p for a pen of 56kg hoggets while Mule hoggets sold to £120 for one pen and 245p for another.
The 463 cast sheep at the sale were poorer quality than previous weeks but as they were scarce they were every bit as dear as before. Top price of £168 was paid for Texels. Mule Ewes Peaked at £115 and Blackface ewes sold to £82.50.
Lawrie & Symington sold prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to 256p/kg or £1527, while prime bullocks peaked at 212p and £1,351. Cast dairy cows sold to 124p and £1,045, while cast beef cows topped at 173p and £1285.
The 2,585 prime hoggets at the sale sold to £143 and 314p/kg to average 243p overall.
