EXPERTS based at the University of Strathclyde have manufactured and donated 10,000 face visors to businesses and charities in Scotland as part of a collaborative response to Covid-19.

Beneficiaries of the project by the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS) have included the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, which received 1,000 visors.

“We have continued to deliver our vital services over the pandemic and these essential items have kept our teams safe when providing animals with the best possible care,” said Graeme Innes, the charity’s deputy head of field operations.

Visors have also been distributed to care homes, hospices, counselling centres, youth groups and social enterprises.

NMIS is a group of industry-led manufacturing and engineering research and development facilities focused on helping to make Scotland a global leader in advanced manufacturing.

After importing material from Sweden in May, the Institute produced prototype visors with the help of Ayrshire-based social enterprise Tsukure Hub. These passed rigorous testing for safety through the British Standards Institution.
