PUBLIC services and social housing in Glasgow are in line for investment of £7.7 million following the publication of the latest accounts from City Building, the council-backed construction services organisation.

But the contribution of its two component businesses is down by £1.4m compared with the previous year.

City Building has two companies: City Building (Glasgow), a 50-50 joint venture between Glasgow City Council and social housing provider Wheatley Group, and City Building (Contracts), which is wholly owned by Glasgow City Council.

City Building (Glasgow) provides repairs, maintenance and investment work to the Wheatley Group, while City Building (Contracts) undertakes work for the council and delivers commercial contracts, providing construction, repair and maintenance and manufacturing services.

New results for City (Building) Glasgow show it increased turnover by 2.5 per cent to £142.6m for the year ended March 31. This enabled City Building to return £5.5m to the council and Wheatley Group, £500,000 more than the previous year. Turnover rose as the business secured a new contract with Dumfries and Galloway Housing Partnership, now part of Wheatley. However, turnover fell at City Building (Contracts) to £65.2m from £87.9m, which was attributed to the completion of larger-scale construction projects. This division will contribute to £2.2m to the council for public services, down from £4.1m.
