The implications of the result from today’s presidential election in the United States will be the subject of a webinar scheduled for tomorrow morning.

The event is being organised by the Scottish North American Business Council (SNABC) and will give nearly 200 business leaders the opportunity to hear views from a panel of experts about the voting outcome in Scotland’s largest export market. The election has been described as “one of the most important in decades”, with ramifications for key trade policies.

“The USA continues to be Scotland’s top international trading partner with around 17.1 per cent of all our exports entering the States, which is worth £5.5 billion,” SNABC executive director Allan Hogarth said. “We are fortunate to have 600 US companies operating in Scotland, creating 90,000 jobs in Scotland.

“Scottish businesses will hear from a range of experts on the potential impact of the election on their operations, and what decisions the next president of the USA might make in relation to future trade agreements, tariffs and taxes.”

Panellists will include professor Anthony McGann from the University of Strathclyde, professor Murray Leith from the University of the West of Scotland, and Jason Boxt, founder of Washington-based strategic research firm 3W Insights.
