South Lanarkshire College is celebrating a clutch of recent award wins and nominations. From recognition of its work with student carers to its degree partnership with the University of West of Scotland, these accolades highlight South Lanarkshire College’s efforts to deliver an inclusive college community where all students are successful and move on to the next stage of their journey.
Going Further for Student Carers: Recognition Award and CDN Inclusive College Awards:
Earlier this year, South Lanarkshire College was awarded the Going Further for Student Carers: Recognition Award from The Carers Trust. Reinforcing its ethos as a carer positive employer, South Lanarkshire College has also been nominated in the CDN Inclusive College Awards 2020.
Degree partnership with UWS:
A successful joint Bachelor of Arts degree programme with the University of West of Scotland has also reaped many awards for individual South Lanarkshire College students since its inception ten years ago.
Created as an alternative route to the Bachelor of Accountancy degree course, this year marked the fourth year in a row where a South Lanarkshire College student was awarded a prestigious Court Medal from the University of West of Scotland (UWS) for best performing student. Four students were also awarded Distinctions for their achievements.
Through this programme, over 170 students have achieved this degree and a number of former graduates have gone on to secure teaching positions at South Lanarkshire College.
Nominated in the SIE (Scottish Institute for Enterprise) Imaginative Educator Awards:
In the SIE Imaginative Educator Awards, the Plumbing and Gas Team was at the forefront of a collaborative effort by SNIPEF (The Scottish and Northern Ireland Plumbing Employers’ Federation) along with a number of colleges across Scotland, on devising alternative assessment methods to allow for course completion during lockdown.
Principal and CEO, Aileen McKechnie commented: “It’s a great privilege to be the Principal of South Lanarkshire College. We pride ourselves on delivering excellence in all aspects of college activity and we are Scotland’s top performing college for overall student achievement.
“We offer a wide range of quality learning opportunities to over 5000 learners and provide the local and regional community with the skills and training needed to improve their employment prospects, without ever compromising on diversity and inclusion. I am proud of the difference we make to the lives of so many people across the region and beyond.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
