MALCOLM Cannon, who is credited with helping turn the Hunter wellie from farmyard wear into a major fashion brand, has become a senior member of the management team at upmarket residential property specialist Simpson & Marwick.

Mr Cannon has been appointed managing director property services with Simpson & Marwick in Edinburgh after a career which has seen him lead a range of organisations through periods of change.

He joins Simpson & Marwick following a 15-month spell as Scotland director of the Institute of Directors business organisation.

Mr Cannon, 58, previously completed a four-year term in charge of Cricket Scotland after leading ESPC (Edinburgh Solicitors Property Centre) through the recession triggered by the 2008 financial crisis He ran Hunter Boot from 2006 to 2008.

Mr Cannon said Simpson & Marwick has the opportunity and ambition to expand geographically and through its range of customer services.

The Simpson & Marwick conveyancing and estate agency operation completed what was described as a “mutual and amicable demerger” from global law firm Clyde & Co in October and became part of the newly launched Aberdeins group. Simpson & Marwick as a whole merged with and changed its name to Clyde & Co in 2015.

Clyde & Co’s Scottish operation provides legal services in areas such as dispute resolution and employment law. Its commercial real estate team was not affected by the demerger.
