The EIE21 tech investor conference is set to take place in June with 25 Scottish firms among those pitching for up to £2 million of investment.

A further seven start-ups from further afield have also been chosen to take part in the virtual event on June 10. Among them are Transwap, a Singapore fintech in the process of setting up in Scotland, London-based fintech Bridgeweave and iLoF, a digital health specialist based in Oxford.

EIE is a year-round programme run by the University of Edinburgh’s Bayes Centre in partnership with the Data-Driven Innovation (DDI) initiative. The year-round programme is highlighted by a day of pitching to investors from around the world for seed level funding up to £2m or more.

Since its launch in 2008, EIE has supported more than 500 technology start-ups that have collectively raised an estimated £750m. Among the programme’s alumni are FanDuel, Celtic Renewables, pureLiFi, Amiqus, Two Big Ears and Speech Graphics.

For this first time this year, EIE will include a wildcard division alongside eight other categories ranging from AI and data science to smart cities and mobility. Featured companies include satellite data specialist Earth Blox, University of Edinburgh spinout Net AI, seaweed food and packaging developer Oceanium, and OnGen, a tech platform that helps companies cut energy costs and carbon emissions.

Steve Ewing, director of entrepreneurship at the Bayes Centre, said: “We are excited to see so many fascinating companies and products underpinned by both innovation and ambition at this year’s EIE, companies who are aiming to solve real-world problems and meet some of the biggest challenges facing our societies in 2021 and the years ahead.”
