A WEST of Highlands holiday destination, based in the heart of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, has been put on the market as the Scottish tourism industry prepares to gradually open its doors again from the end of April.
Portnellan, which is situated on the shore of Loch Dochart and at the foot of Ben More, is being marketed to potential buyers at offers over £1.55 million.
The holiday park business, which spans 82 acres in the historic Portnellan Estate, includes a range of accommodation, from 22 four and five-star chalets set amid mature woodland to the five-bedroom Victorian lodge house.
And it is being marketed with planning consent granted for a further 16 chalets and function room.
The owners of the business, Cameron and Lucy Taylor, are selling up after more than 40 years to manage another business in the leisure sector.
They are looking for potential buyers with Portnellan having secured nearly 100 per cent occupancy for the forthcoming summer season. The business, which turns over around £500,000, saw a surge in last-minute bookings last summer when the tourism sector reopened in July.
Portnellan, which was founded in the 1970s, is located two miles from the village of Crianlarich. The wider area is popular with outdoor sports enthusiasts, attracted by its munros and woodland walks.
Guests at Portnellan have the use of rowing boats and kayaks, with salmon and trout fishing available on Loch Dochart and Loch Lubhair, and can take part in clay pigeon shooting. The site also has a games room and small gym, propery agent Galbraith noted.
Harry Stott at Gilbraith said: “Portnellan offers an excellent opportunity to live in one of the most desirable rural locations in Scotland and continue operating this successful, reputable holiday business, which provides an outstanding experience for families and outdoor enthusiasts.
“Founded in the late 1970s and developed year on year, the business has gone from strength to strength and now offers very good returns, with the potential for further expansion.
“In addition the purchasers will benefit from a substantial and attractive family home in good order. At a time when so many people are looking to improve their work-life balance, we expect a considerable degree of interest.”
Portnellan has won numerous accolades over the decades, including VisitScotland’s Thistle award for best accommodation provider in the region. It has been awarded a certificate of excellence from Tripadvisor for eight years in a row.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
